Giving Things Away

Giving Things Away

I need your help. Please read on. First my dilemma.

What’s up with “stuff?” I’ve had it up to my eyeballs with stuff lately. All last weekend I processed my late father’s belongings so my 85-year old mother doesn’t have to (and there was A LOT). Then I came home on Monday and started packing my own belongings to move (yes, unbelievably) again. It seems giving things away has become my new hobby. But, for me anyway, it isn’t as easy as it could, or perhaps should, be.

The most interesting thing […]

The Gift of Struggle

Is Struggle a Distraction or a Necessity?

The Gift of Struggle

Struggle makes us strong. I’ve had dreams and goals for a lot of my life. I imagine that’s true of you, too. One of the things I have consistently asked of Spirit is to help me become the person who can create my dreams, which got me to thinking about what is needed to create a life I wanted to live—and it wasn’t what I initially thought.

Things Are Not the Dream

As human beings we need things. Things make us feel happy and safe, […]

Using Upheaval for Good

From Upheaval to Uplevel

Upheaval article image

That’s my new slogan:

From Upheaval to Uplevel

as I’m settling into a new way of doing life…

I’m not sure where I got the idea that life was supposed to be a steady incline that got better and better over time, but boy was I misinformed. One of the problems with believing that (other than it simply isn’t true) is that when things didn’t go the way I thought they should, I continually beat myself up. I thought I must be doing something wrong, I’m not smart enough, wealthy […]

The Secret to Finding Yourself

The Secret to Finding Yourself

I’ve known for nearly two decades that I was in turmoil. I’d been in it so long I’d come to think that turmoil is just the way life is. What I didn’t realize is how lost in the weeds I’d been until I recently found myself in a peaceful meadow. Like the noisy refrigerator in the corner of the room, I didn’t really notice the clamoring I have been living with until it turned off. Are you interested in finding yourself, too?

After so long, I’d gotten used […]

Choose Thoughts Wisely

Choose Thoughts Wisely

I recently took my grandkids to the playground, unfortunately it was full of goatheads, those really nasty thorns that flatten your bike tires, and pierce your shoes, your hands or knees or anything else unfortunate enough to come in contact with them.

We could have picked them out one by one, or tried to avoid them, but that takes a lot of time and energy—and we probably wouldn’t get all of them anyway.  The better solution? Just go play somewhere else. What a great metaphor for life, especially our thought life. […]

Have You Lost Love?

Blue fractal heart

Have You Lost Love?

That’s kind of a silly question isn’t it? If we are older than about one day, we have lost love of some kind. Or at least it feels that way.

If you feel like you’ve lost love, and want it back, this article is for you.

Although I would have pushed back on anyone who tried to tell me this in the past, I have come to know that we cannot lose love. Why?

Love lives in us, not outside us.

Life events, upbringing, along with evidence we’ve gathered to the […]

The High Price of Not Living Authentically

Living Authentically

Living Authentically

Living authentically. What exactly does that mean? How do we do it? Where do we sell ourselves short?

There are hundreds of ways we avoid living authentically. Every time we want to say no, but instead say yes we are not living authentically. When we promise (ourselves) to go to the gym but then do not, we’re not living authentically either. Or how about agreeing to go to that Italian restaurant even though we don’t like Italian food. Yes. There are many, many ways we don’t live authentically. How about for you? […]

What’s Wrong With Waiting?

What’s Wrong With Waiting?

What's Wrong With Waiting_

There’s nothing like a car crash with a head injury to force a change in habits. I’ve had to slow down—a lot.  I didn’t realize the speed at which I lived life until I slowed it down a few notches.  It’s been different, but certainly not a bad thing.

My motto has become WWWW. Like WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?). Or www (world-wide-web) My motto is What’s Wrong With Waiting? I think I’ll start a movement. What’s Wrong With Waiting?  = WWWW

In the past I […]

The Upside of Emotional Crashes

The Upside of Emotional Crashes

The Upside of Emotional Crashes

I’ve lived a helluva life. In a little over a decade I’ve moved at least a dozen times, been in two car-totaling crashes, and been through two divorces. Those are the things I can quantify. The list doesn’t include financial crashes, computer crashes and emotional crashes. I’ve wondered what I’m missing that I require these hard lessons over and over. Is it just a string of bad luck? Did I sign up for this in some way? Is this just the way […]

Three Tools for Change

Three Tools for Change

Tools For Change

When it is time to “uplevel” I recognize that I need a lot of support—a team if you will. My team is one of my tools for change. I seek body workers, certain types of therapists/coaches, healers, spiritual guides and the counsel of wise friends. I’m not sure what a caterpillar feels like when it knows it’s time to molt/transform, but I imagine it’s similar to what I feel in an “upleveling.” The caterpillar stores energy, builds the cocoon within which the transformation […]
